OU Bench
We originally designed this bench for Israel’s Fine Woodworking Exhibition in 2019. It was created as part of our research into shapes, and is a result of our experimentation with the boundaries of wood. During this process we were looking for intriguing compositions which play around with balance and offer new perspectives on the relationship between shape and material.
We used different techniques including lamination (gluing thin strips of wood together and bending them using a mold); paper glue joints (gluing two pieces of wood with a sheet of paper between them, a technique that allowed us to process both pieces as one unit and then cleanly split them apart); and wood-turning (shaping wood using chisels while it turns on a lathe).
